DER BELGIER

The Belgian
that left for Vienna

THE STORY STARTS IN 2009 WHEN BELGIAN RAF TOTÉ FELL IN LOVE.
IN MANY WAYS. NOT ONLY WITH HIS FUTURE WIFE, BUT ALSO WITH THE CITY OF VIENNA, THE BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY OF AUSTRIA AND ITS LOVELY PEOPLE.

Once moved to Vienna, Raf started brewing beer out of nostalgia to his home country and to unwind from his marketing job at a large tech company. Shortly after, not only the kitchen, but also the guest bathroom and cellar were taken up by his new passion.

Many experiments, brewing books, a ‘beer sommelier’ course and numerous conversations with fellow brewers later, Raf decided in 2015 to quit his tech job and pursue a new adventure: Der Belgier Brewing was born.

brewing philosophy

BELGIAN BEERS ARE OFTEN PROCLAIMED AS THE MOST RICH AND EXCITING BREWS IN THE WORLD. OUR VISION IS TO STAY TRUE
TO THE BELGIAN BREWING TRADITIONS, THROUGH OUR BREWING TECHNIQUES, INGREDIENTS AND BEER STYLES.

First of all, we us only top quality, and 100% natural ingredients, whenever possible we use malts and hops grown and processed by top Austrian producers.

Even though we do not follow the German purity laws, we only use 100% natural ingredients, whenever possible grown and processed nearby in Austria.

The usage of fruits and spices ist very common in Belgium. We love to give our beers a special touch with a pinch of coriander, a dash of Paradise grains or a handful of orange peel.

Selected and grown in our own laboratory, our pure Belgian yeast forms the magical element giving our beers that typical Belgian soul.

We believe in slow brewing. Therefore our beer gets the time it needs to mature before we give it a second fermentation in the bottle. The yeast in the bottle safeguards the beer, making it even richer as time passes while it waits to be savoured by you.
Enjoy !

BREWERY

DER BELGIER BREWING CO-HOSTS ITS BREWERY AT THE BIERMACHEREI BUGELMÜLLER ON THE HAUPTPLATZ IN KORNEUBURG.

In pursuit of the perfect spot to brew, one day, Raf met Bernhard Bugelmüller, renowned Biersommelier, educator and brewer. In December 2016, they decide to jointly rebuild the Biermacherei in Korneuburg, opening in May 2017.The 5 hectoliter system may not be large, it allows us to experiment and keep on refining our Belgian recipes to perfection. The brewery is open for visits by appointment only.

N°5 SAISON

Saison is the fascinating and elusive style, home to a small part of Wallonia in the South of Belgium. These beers, known for their secret spice mixes, were originally made for the field workers during the summer harvest season.

This summer feeling is exactly what ‘Der Belgier Saison’ impersonates: rich exotic fruit aromas originating from the yeast, hops and spices. The foam is dense, the color hazy yellow, like the summer morning sun. Despite the modest alcohol level, the body is rich and inviting. A gentle sweetness turns into a dry and slightly spicy finish.

Style: Belgian Saison
Alc.: 5.9% Vol
O.G.: 13.1°P
Bitterness: 30 IBU
Serving temperature: 5°-8°C
Food pairing: Perfect with delicate dishes such as fresh Salmon, grilled fish, asparagus, goat cheese, or just a thirst quencher during a hot summer day.
Containers: 0,33L Bottle | 0,75L Bottle | 20L Keg

N°8 HONEY, I LOVE YOU

The beerstyle ‚Dubbel‘ is mainly known from the Belgian Trappist beers. Mostly dark in colour, these complex beers have a steady body, fruity yeast aromas and a medium dry finish. This fascinating beer has a magical love-dance of honey and orange in both taste and aroma.

Rich aromas of honey and orange, supported by herbal and fruity aromas of the Belgian yeast. Steady foam and rather strong carbonization. Full, intensive body with a perfect balance between honey, malt and hops. Medium dry finish.

Style: Belgian Dubbel
Alc.: 8.5% Vol
O.G.: 17.3°P
Bitterness: 28 IBU
Serving Temperature: 9-11°C
Food pairing: Perfect with cheese, chocolate, or simply to enjoy with friends or in front of the fireplace with a good book.
Containers: 0,33L Bottle | 0,75L Bottle | 20L Keg

Explorateur | BLONDE

The style ‚Strong Blonde‘ is very popular in Belgien. Almost every bar will have it on tap, next to the standard Pils beer. Despite the full character of these beers, a Blonde always needs to have a high drinkability.

Golden color with thick foam, very light haze. Fruity and flowery yeast aromas with hints of orange and marzipan. Full body with a great balance between sweet, bitter and yeasty touches. Smooth finish.

Style: Belgian Strong Blonde
Alc.: 6.5% Vol
O.G.: 15.2°P
Bitterness: 23 IBU
Serving Temperature: 7-9°C
Food pairing: Meat dishes such as Steaks. Brilliant to Belgian style mussels.
Containers: 0,33L Bottle| 20L Keg

Der Belgier ´Explorateur´ is a series of special brews, seasonal beers and experiments, brewed in smaller batches.
